In partnership with the City of Virginia Beach and the U.S. Navy, Preservation Virginia’s Cape Henry Lighthouse will enact a variety of operational protocols to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our visitors, staff, and the military community. Below are the new procedures we have embraced: 1. Visitors to the Cape Henry Lighthouse will be required to wear masks when indoors, including on the shuttles that transport visitors to the Cape Henry Lighthouse from Gate 8 and inside the gift shop. 2. Guests will have their temperatures taken prior to boarding shuttles by a Preservation Virginia Historic Interpreter stationed at the shuttle boarding area to facilitate this safety measure. The Historic Interpreter assisting with temperature checks will have a tablet device to assist guests with purchasing admission. 3. Lighthouse staff will be subject to wellness checks and will have their temperatures taken prior to beginning their shift. 4. Admission to the Cape Henry Lighthouse will be available online for guest purchase and will include a guided walking tour of the site as well as access to the Cape Henry Lighthouse dune plaza. 5. The lighthouse tower itself will be closed to visitors for the time being. 6. Social distancing indicators will be used to remind guests to space themselves appropriately as they wait to board the shuttle. 7. Shuttles will initially operate at 50% capacity and shuttle drivers will wear masks and face shields. High-touch surfaces on the shuttles will be disinfected after visitors disembark the shuttle at the Cape Henry Lighthouse gift shop. 8. Hand sanitizer stations will be strategically located at the shuttle boarding area, in the gift shop, and on the dune plaza. A separate handwashing station will also be available to guests. 9. Prominent signage will be utilized to ensure that guests are aware of these new procedures. 10. Entry to the gift shop will be restricted to two family units at a time. Stanchions will be placed in front of the gift shop, enabling visitors to que outside prior to entry. 11. The gift shop will be periodically closed to disinfect high-touch surfaces. 12. Plexiglass sneeze guards will be employed on gift shop display cases and counter areas to protect Preservation Virginia personnel and guests during transactions. 13. The site will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and additional interpretive staff will be on-site daily to assist with crowd control measures and enforce social distancing. At the Cape Henry Lighthouse, we have pledged to VB Smarter in 2021. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.
