All roads lead to Virginia Beach, but some with greater ease. Follow these recommendations for reaching the oceanfront with minimal delay.
From the Northwest: Motorists traveling to Virginia Beach from the northwest (through central Virginia) are encouraged to use a fast, alternate route. Traveling via the I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT), off of I-64 East, can make getting here a breeze. While mileage to reach the beach could be greater than taking I-64 and the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, I-664 tends to be less congested, reducing the time you’ll spend idling in traffic. Simply take I-64 East, to I-664 (Exit # 264), to I-264 (Exit # 15 A), which will lead to the oceanfront. When leaving to return home, take I-264 West to I-664 North (Exit #299) to I-64 West (Exit #1 A).
From the West: When approaching from the west, routes include Interstate 64, U.S. 460 or U.S. 58.
From the North: Convenient routes include Interstates 85 or 95, U.S. 17 and U.S. 13 (crossing the world-famous Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel, a 17-mile span connecting Virginia's Eastern Shore with Virginia Beach). These routes intersect with Interstate 64, which connects with the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway, Interstate 264, and leads directly to the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
From the South: Convenient routes include Interstates 85 or 95, U.S. 168, U.S. 17 and U.S. 13. These routes intersect with Interstate 64, which connects with the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway, Interstate 264, and leads directly to the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
Norfolk International Airport is 20 minutes from the oceanfront and is serviced by most major U.S. carriers, www.takeorf.com, (757) 857-3351. Arrivals at Norfolk International Airport can reach Virginia Beach via the airport shuttle. Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, (757) 877-0221, also serves the area.
