Planning a beach day at the Oceanfront or exploring nearby attractions? Here’s everything you need to know about getting around and finding parking to keep your getaway easy and stress-free.

Seasonal Shuttle Services

From mid-May to Labor Day, Hampton Roads Transit’s VB Wave Trolley and Bayfront Shuttle make it easy to travel around the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Rudee Inlet and First Landing State Park.

  • Route 30 Trolley (Atlantic Avenue Trolley) runs every 15 minutes from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., cruising up and down Atlantic Avenue, from 2nd Street to 40th Street.
  • Route 31 (Aquarium and Campground Trolley) runs every 20 minutes from 9:30 am to 11:10 pm., between the Virginia Beach KOA and Atlantic Avenue at 18th Street.
  • Route 35 (Bayfront Shuttle) runs every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., providing service between the ViBe Creative District and First Landing State Park.

Go online for current fares and the real-time location of the next shuttle. Pay onboard with cash, or purchase tickets or day passes ahead of time at select retail outlets.

Hampton Roads Transit OnDemand

Hampton Roads Transit OnDemand helps you get where you need to go when it works for you. Book on-demand rides to select locations within a 15-square-mile zone in northwest Virginia Beach, including Town Center of Virginia Beach and Pembroke Mall.

Rides are just $2, and they’re free for paratransit riders and students (with a Student Freedom Pass). Reserve a ride through the mobile app or by calling (757) 979-2955.

Parking Made Simple

You’ll find plenty of parking throughout the city, whether you’re headed to the Oceanfront, Croatan Beach or Sandbridge.

Parking meters accept coins, credit or debit cards, text-to-pay and mobile payment apps, such as PassportParking and ParkMobile.

Oceanfront Parking

  • Paid parking is seasonal, from April–October (8 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.)
  • Municipal parking lots with more than 300 parking spaces are located along Atlantic Avenue at 2nd Street, Rudee Loop and 4th Street.
  • Municipal parking garages with more than 1,670 parking spaces are located along Pacific Avenue at 9th, 25th and 31st Streets.
  • Fee: $2/hour ($20 max)
  • Metered street parking: $2/hour
  • Free metered parking from 5–10 a.m. between 5th Street and Rudee Loop.

Croatan Parking

  • Paid parking is seasonal, from April–September (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
  • A municipal parking lot with more than 500 parking spaces is located on Vanderbilt Avenue.
  • Fee: $7/day

Sandbridge Parking

  • Paid parking is seasonal, from May–September (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Municipal parking lots with more than 900 parking spaces are located near Sandbridge Market and at Little Island Park.
  • Fee: $4/day; $10/overnight (excludes Sandbridge Market Lot)

Accessible Parking

Designated accessible parking spaces are in all municipal parking lots and garages. On-street parking is available along Arctic Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Rudee Loop and Atlantic Avenue cross streets from 2nd to 37th Street.

Vehicles displaying a disabled parking placard or license plate can park for free at any metered on-street spot for up to four hours. All beach access points feature universally-accessible ramps.

For Buses, RVs and Trailers

Oversized vehicles are welcome to park in designated spaces in the 4th Street, Croatan and Little Island Park municipal lots.

Fee: $15/day; $25/overnight

Note: Overnight parkers are not permitted to sleep in vehicles.
