Princess Anne County Training School Union Kempsville High School Museum

Location: Virginia Beach

Princess Anne County Training School was the first high school for African Americans in Princess Anne County. The school was a result of the African American community in the 1930s working together to raise money to build a school so their children could receive a proper education. The money raised was used to purchase four acres of land. The land and $2000 were given to the school board but it made no attempt to build a school. So in 1934, a temporary school was established on the property of the Union Baptist Church. In 1938, a four-room high school was finally built. Between 1949 and 1962 several additions were made to the school. In 1962 the Princess Anne County Training School changed its name to Union Kempsville High School. And in 1969 Union Kempsville High School graduated its last class due to the city-wide integration of schools.

(Public Sessions)
Public sessions are open skate times to the public and are for people of all skating abilities.

(Freestyle Sessions)
Freestyle sessions are open skate times for our higher level figure skaters and coaches giving private lessons. Any skater must have passed freestyle 1 or above to skate on freestyle session without a private lesson. We also have shows and competitions year round so keep an eye out for those announcements.

(Learn to Skate Classes)
Iceland offers learn to skate classes 4 days a week. Learn to Skate sessions are 8 weeks long. Skate rental is included in the price. Also, when a student signs up for learn to skate classes, they are also given a punch card for eight $2 public sessions (only valid during their session dates)!

(Birthday Parties)
Party packages start at only $13 a person! Birthday parties are booked around public sessions. Check out our public session calendar to find a day that works best!

(Adult Hockey Leagues)
Iceland provides multiple different leagues year-round for adult players of all different ages and skill levels.

SYMPHONICITY

Symphonicity is a premier community orchestra in the largest city of Virginia, the City of Virginia Beach. Over 200 talented musicians come from all walks of life and play for the love of music, dedicating more than 12,000 hours annually to help ensure everyone can access quality symphonic music. With innovative multimedia masterworks at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, multiple pops concerts, annual sing-alongs, children's concerts and dozens of small music performances, they offer something for everyone! Membership of the orchestra and chorus is comprised of retired and active symphony players, public school teachers, freelance musicians, private instructors and composers, as well as business professionals, doctors, homemakers, and many others.

Symphonicity, formerly known as the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra, was formed in 1981, under the baton its founding conductor, David S. Kunkel. In 2017 after a two-year international search, Daniel W. Boothe was named Music Director & Conductor. Under his leadership, the orchestra has grown to incorporate dynamic multimedia concert presentations and award-winning performances, such as winning VEER Magazine's Album of the Year. Since 2017, the orchestra has recorded three albums and has reached over 250,000 people annually in online released content.

Join us at the DoubleTree by Hilton Virginia Beach for an event that is very different from a traditional murder mystery dinner show. Our actors are not dressed in costume and are hidden in the audience! This results in a fun, social and interactive evening suitable for all adults.

We perform at the DoubleTree by Hilton Virginia Beach, a newly renovated full-service hotel in beautiful Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are located next to the Convention Center and eight blocks from the beautiful Virginia Beach oceanfront.
