This 4,321-acre area is a mile-wide barrier spit between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, in the extreme southeast corner of Virginia Beach. It has 6 miles of unspoiled beaches, 12 primitive campsites, and 9 miles of hiking/biking trails. Access is through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and is limited to hiking, biking, or boating. The park also features an extensive environmental educational program in one of the last undistributed coastal environments on the East Coast. Thousands of passengers enjoy a tram tour which leaves Little Island City Park in Sandbridge and follows the west bike trail through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge to False Cape State Park.
