Coastal Edge was born out of the love for the Surf and Skate community and a college project. Our founder, D. Nachnani loved visiting Hawaii during his spring breaks with his family. He was inspired by the Ohana "family" culture of Hawaii and decided to bring a little of that back to Virginia Beach.
After deciding that the medical industry was not his passion, D started Coastal Edge in 1990. We have grown from 1 location at the oceanfront to 6 locations in Virginia. The Ohana spirit is an integral part of Coastal Edge, and we believe that everyone (staff and customers) is part of the Coastal Edge family.
We have a deep-rooted love for our Virginia Beach community, and we strive to give back to it every day. Whether it be big events like the Vans presents the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships produced by the Virginia Beach Jaycees featuring Monster Energy, The Coastal Edge Be a Lifesaver Blood drives, and beach clean-ups with the VB Surfrider Foundation, we are always trying to make our community a better place.
From our vendors to our staff, Coastal Edge is truly a team effort. We are working together to make Coastal Edge a world-class brand. Our customers and their satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us. Without all of you Coastal Edge simply would not exist. We are humbled and proud to be celebrating 30 years of business in 2020. We appreciate each person who walks through our doors and give thanks for all the support the community has given us.

Our mission is to build a community of surfers with a deeper appreciation for the sport of surfing. We do this by inviting surfers young and old--experienced and beginners-- to partake in the functional art form of surfboard shaping. One of our experienced shaping instructors will take time to understand your needs and goals in order to help you design your perfect board. Then we'll hand-craft your own custom board together!
Our experienced team of board-builders will fiberglass your board with your personalized artwork and let you know when the board is ready for pick-up!
Hand-shaping lessons are typically complete either in two separate 4-hour sessions or a single 8-hour session.
We also offer custom surfboards and surfboard repairs.
