Getting Your Group to Virginia Beach

Bus Travel to Virginia Beach

Driving Directions to Virginia Beach

From the Northwest: Traveling via the I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT), off of I-64 East, can make getting here a breeze — it’s a bit more mileage, but you’ll avoid the congestion of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Simply take I-64 East to I-664 (Exit # 264), to I-264 (Exit # 15 A), which will lead to the Oceanfront. On your way home, take I-264 West to I-664 North (Exit #299) to I-64 West (Exit #1 A).

From the West: When approaching from the west, routes include Interstate 64, U.S. 460 or U.S. 58. All are great options. 

From the North: Convenient routes include Interstates 85 or 95, U.S. 17 and U.S. 13 (crossing the world-famous Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, a 17-mile span connecting Virginia’s Eastern Shore with Virginia Beach). These routes intersect with Interstate 64, which connects with the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway, Interstate 264, and leads directly to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

From the South: Convenient routes include Interstates 85 or 95, U.S. 168, U.S. 17 and U.S. 13. These routes intersect with Interstate 64, which connects with the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway, Interstate 264, and leads directly to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Air Travel to Virginia Beach

Train Travel to Virginia Beach

Amtrak service to the area is available via a train connection just 15 minutes away in Norfolk. Reservations are required. Call Amtrak at 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245) or visit www.amtrak.com. Boat Travel to Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach contains more than 50 square miles of water, so “by water” is always a good choice. Linking the Chesapeake Bay and James River estuaries is the Port of Virginia, the deepest on the East Coast and homeport to the world’s largest naval base. The 3,000-mile Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway — which enables recreational boaters to travel from Virginia Beach as far north as Boston and as far south as Brownsville, Texas — begins here. Getting Around Town in Virginia Beach

Unique Options: Virginia Beach offers rental bikes, surreys and rollerblades (along with any related safety equipment) at various hotels and locations along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. If there’s a captain and crew in your midst, you may want to hire a boat at Virginia Beach Fishing Center, VB Boat Rentals or Bay Venture Boat Rentals

Beach Access for the Disabled: Access via ramps for the disabled are located at every beach access from 1st to 58th Streets. Wooden ramps that take you all the way to the water’s edge are located at 8th, 17th, 24th and 30th Streets. You’ll find designated disabled on-street parking at Rudee Loop, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 37th and 38th Streets. Designated disabled off-street parking is available at all municipal parking lots. Beach Roll-Eezz chairs are available; please inquire at (757) 427-8234.

Resort Area Parking: The Oceanfront contains more than 1,500 off-street municipal parking spaces and 725 on-street metered spaces. Parking meters have a three-hour time limit and are enforced April 1–September 30. Municipal parking lots are located at 4th Street, 9th Street and Pacific Avenue, 19th Street and Pacific Avenue, 25th Street and Pacific Avenue and at Croatan and Sandbridge beaches. Municipal parking lots charge a daily parking fee. Special hourly, weekly and monthly fees are available at the 9th Street Parking Garage.

Alternate Routes to Atlantic Avenue: To avoid traffic congestion en route to the Oceanfront, we recommend the Birdneck Road exit off I-264. Convenient street signs are displayed at the bottom of the exit ramp and will direct you to your desired Atlantic Avenue destination.
