As the first-ever half marathon race, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon has helped to position 13.1 miles as the hugely popular race distance that it is today. Held each year on Labor Day weekend in conjunction with the American Music Festival, runners are treated to miles of music along the course and a grand finish on the oceanfront Boardwalk, in addition to the popular 3-day concert series.
If 13.1 miles seems like a little too far to run, participants can also opt for the 5K race or Virginia Beach Mile on the Sand and still cross the finish line to party it up with the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series.
For many, Labor Day Weekend marks the conclusion of the summer months – a time to sit back, relax and reflect on a season of beaches, barbecues and beer, while diligently reapplying aloe on that blistering sunburn. The weekend may indeed signal the end of one season, but instead of reflection and recuperation, we like to focus on the ushering in of a new season in style. From a thrilling test of endurance along the boardwalk to heart-pounding, fist-pumping music right on the sand, Labor Day Weekend in Virginia Beach is the celebration that such a weekend deserves.
