For families with young kids, spending purposeful time outside is more important than ever. To thrive in this dynamic world, children need outdoor play experiences that deliver the hands-on lessons, valuable social interactions, and restorative activity that can’t be gained from the tap of a screen. As parents, it’s our job to ensure they engage in these experiences early and often. But how?

While finding ways to create enriching outdoor moments is essential, it isn’t always easy. Getting outside might be a simple first step, but for a lot of us, knowing what to do next—and how to make it count— just doesn’t come naturally.

Tinkergarten helps families get outside to make the most of their kids’ early learning years. Designed by education experts and loved by all families, our play-based outdoor curriculum guides parents in raising healthy, confident, and capable kids.

Itinerary:

10 am board The Nature Bus > destination = First Landing State Park (entrance fee included)

10:30 arrive at FLSP

10:30-11 bathroom/picnic snack/lunch in your nest/socialize (instructor set-up time)

11:00 – 12:00 ONE HOUR TINKERGARTEN NATURE LESSON (*option #2: meet us on location for this one-hour class)

12 – 12:30 travel back to REI on The Nature Bus

YOU HAVE PAYMENT AND TIME SLOT OPTIONS! 

Option #1:      TINKERGARTEN with The Nature Bus! Includes transportation on board the bird-chirping bus AND First Landing State Park entrance fee (2.5 hours ROUND TRIP): 10:00 am – 12:30 pm $35/class x 6 classes = $210 for 6 week session divided by 2 (parent cost + child cost) = $105/person (Parent needs a ticket to ride so we can accurately have a head count for the bus).

Option #2:      TINKERGARTEN meet at the class location. WITHOUT BUS (1 hour) 11:00 – 12:00pm $25/class x 6 classes = $150 for 6 week session) *important note: you will need to pay the $7 entrance fee into First Landing State Park each time you enter, unless you have purchased an annual pass. 

Please arrive at 9:45 am to board the bus; departure is exactly at 10. (REI 350 Independence Blvd, Virginia Beach) to board the bus. Our destination is: First Landing State Park

PRICE: 6-week session Option #1: $105 per person (transportation + entrance to FLSP included); parent + child pay for seat on the bus; lap babies under 12 months are free.         

OR     Option #2: $150 per child (meet on location/pay entrance to park)

EVERY ADULT AND EVERY CHILD/EXPLORER 12 months – 6 years old needs to EACH pay for a spot in the program. This is the only way we can keep track of the # of seats filled on The Nature Bus. We divided the program cost into two (2) – one parent + one child. If you have a 2nd child to enroll, the cost is $210 with bus or $150 without bus (additional child(ren) fee.
