It’s a new year, and with a new year comes the determination for a new you. There’s just something about hanging up that new calendar that sets us into motion and motivates us to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. We kick off our series of VB Resolutions ready to train harder and run faster, and luckily, Virginia Beach is the perfect spot to put those resolutions to work! In fact, it’s no surprise that we’ve been consistently ranked among America’s Fittest Cities. With countless races – from 5Ks and 10Ks to half- and full marathons – our destination makes for one amazing course that will fast track all of your fitness goals. All you need to do is sign up and hit the pavement.

Early in the year, Shamrock Marathon Weekend (March 17-19) offers plenty of running action for beginners and Boston Marathon trainees alike, with six running events and three special challenges, all culminating with the Shamrock Marathon and Half-Marathon on March 19, which provide a scenic course set alongside the Atlantic Ocean.

Later in the year, just in time for Labor Day festivities, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series arrives at the beach. The weekend hosts (Sept. 2-3) a Health & Fitness Expo and three running events (“Mile on the Sand,” 5K and Half-Marathon), all culminating with live performances on the sand during the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series, during the American Music Festival, the largest outdoor music event on the East Coast.

Want to add some fun to your run? Sign up for the Anthem Wicked 10K (Oct. 28) which, in addition to boasting a challenging and scenic course, also fittingly includes a costume contest and post-race party on the beach.  Be sure to cap off your running schedule for the year with another festive feat. The Surf-n-Santa Five Miler (December) provides a magical trot unlike any other, as runners dash through the oceanfront under the Holiday Lights at the Beach. Be sure to stay tuned for 2017 details, coming soon.

With a year chockfull of amazing races opportunities, runners of all experience levels can take the time needed to train for that personal record. Sign up now and resolve to make 2017 a year to remember!
