May 25 is National Wine Day, and we’re celebrating by raising our stemmed glasses to some of our favorite Virginia Beach wine bars that we think you need to try this year.
Everything on the menu at Press Wine Bar, which recently open on Shore Drive, from the artisan quality small plates and entrees to their luxurious desserts make for mouthwatering pairings. With over 300 wines, the pairing options are endless.
With hundreds of varieties of wine, 40 or more of which are offered in both flight and full-sized pours, Town Center’s Sonoma is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for variety. The staff here is excited to talk through your preferences with you and recommend a glass of wine for you, whether you’re a wine pro or not.
Mermaid Winery is one of a few on this list making the Chesapeake Bay District a must-visit for wine lovers. The first urban winery in the state of Virginia, Mermaid’s grapes are sourced from premier vineyards in Virginia and California. They also have over 800 wines from around the world that you can taste, too.
Operating off of Pleasure House Road in the Chesapeake Bay District, Lubo offers a menu of 150 wines, which change regularly, including 30 by the glass and daily wine flights. While the extensive wine collection might be what brings you in, don’t leave this place without trying the award-winning Black & Blue Nachos, with blackened steak, shallots, gorgonzola cheese and a balsamic reduction drizzle.
When you’re feeling creative, unleash your inner artist at Town Center’s Muse Paintbar, where the wine and paint flow in equal measure. With a menu of tasty finger foods and over 20 beers and wines from which to choose, Muse is the perfect spot to create your next masterpiece.
In the Hilltop area just inland from the oceanfront, this place is all about the wine and cheese. They offer a large selection from small, family-owned wineries that you can stop in and take home with you or that you can stay and try there. If you opt to stay, enjoy some expertly-crafted charcuterie board with an ever-changing selection of fine meats and cheeses.
Zoes has been known for their wines for years and they have the hardware to prove it, including 5 consecutive years of Wine Spectator Magazine’s Best of Award of Excellence. Their in-house sommelier is always available to help you find the perfect pairing or just to talk wine with you and answer any questions you might have.
