With the rapid growth of our brewery scene, including the upcoming opening of the San Diego-based Green Flash Brewing Company, beer is flowing through Virginia Beach like the mighty Lynnhaven River. With new breweries seemingly popping up every day, there is no better time to enjoy a sampler by the sea.

In the heart of the Chesapeake Bay Beach, in the laid-back Chick’s Beach neighborhood, Commonwealth Brewing Company is draining their taps out of a repurposed firehouse, built in 1962. Try the Supernaculum West Coast IPA or Wapatoolie Tropical IPA, and take it outside for some food trucks and corn hole. Dogs are welcomed, too! Just hitch a ride across the Lesner Bridge for an easygoing vibe and a revolving selection of beer at Pleasure House Brewing. With seven barrel fermenters and 101 types of beer to date, there is always something new to try at Pleasure House. When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with the Glo Belgian Blond Ale, which took home second-place at the Virginia Craft Beer Festival! For a taste of Germany just down the road from the Resort Beach, head to Wasserhund Brewing Company for some handcrafted artisan pizza, bratwurst and, of course, house-brewed German beer. This family-owned joint uses a two-barrel system in brewing their 15 current varieties of beer, including a tasty Hefeweizen and the popular Doggy Paddle IPA. Grab your beer steins and lederhosen and get in on the fun!

With such a hopping scene and multiple options to choose from, why not try a pint or two in Virginia Beach? Raise your glass to the place where the suds meet the sand and drink in good health. Cheers!
