Listen, we love stopping in at our local brewery, pulling up a stool at the counter, and diving into one of our favorite brews, fresh from the tap, as much as the next person. It’s hard to beat the crisp effervescence of a pint of locally-produced beer pulled straight from the keg. Hard - but not impossible. The best thing about a good beer is that it makes some of our favorite activities that much better. From football games in the fall to holiday parties in the winter, it’s a welcome addition to any event, no matter the season. In Virginia Beach in the summer, however, we think there’s no better way to imbibe than by getting out on the water and cracking open a cold one. It may not be on draft, but we’ve never heard anyone complain. Whether we’re deep-sea fishing on the Atlantic or just cruising along the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay, you won’t find us without a can, crowler, or growler of one of these mouth-watering boat beers from our favorite local breweries.
Mano Del Puma
Smooth and light, Commonwealth’s easy-drinking Mexican-style pale lager is perfect for a hot day at sea. Don’t forget the lime.
Sandshark Summer Ale
We could drink a good summer ale all day long and this thirst-quenching Kolsch-style brew from Reaver Beach is one of the best around - perfect for a day of reeling in cobia and wahoo.
Sea to Sea Lager
With a name like “Sea to Sea,” this slightly hoppy, easy-to-drink beer is begging to be taken out for a ride along the Atlantic Coast.
Slightly grassy and herbal, this mellow beer is a tasty take on a seasonal staple that really floats our boats... Get it?
Jet Noise Double IPA
The sweet, malty notes mixed with a pleasant hoppiness make this an ideal IPA for an exhilarating afternoon spent cruising around the bay.
Boaty McBoatface Blond Ale
It’s called Boaty McBoatface. Of course it makes our list of beers to drink on the boat. It doesn’t hurt that it is exactly what we want for a day in the sun, cutting through the chop.
This refreshing take on a German Hefeweizen packs a hint of banana and a slight hoppiness, making it the perfect pairing with some sunshine and a cool, salty breeze. If wheat beer is your prefered brew, you will not be disappointed.
Back Bay’s version of the thirst-quenching Mexican Lager is light and crisp and way too easy to drink. Fill your cooler with this and you won’t need to return to the marina anytime soon.
Get the ice in the cooler and grab your favorite koozie. Summer is the season for getting out on the water in Virginia Beach and, with these refreshing boat beers on board, it may be awhile before we return to land. Cheers.
