September Brings Music, Wine and Good Times

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept 2, 2014) – The ocean breezes have cooled, but the leaves haven’t turned just yet. Virginia Beach is squeezing the last drops from summer with a September lineup of multicultural musical events, art shows, an air show and an entire month of events celebrating the King of the Sea, King Neptune!

Blues, Hues & Loop-the-Loops

You can even learn to play your own tunes during one of the instrumental workshops, led by Natchel’ Blues Network personnel and festival performers. Head up the road from the oceanfront to the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) to meet the featured fall artists at the

MOCA Fall Exhibition Opening Reception

(Sept. 11). Sample fine fare and cocktails and enjoy live entertainment by the Christopher Newport University Jazz Combo, featuring students pursuing CNU's new Jazz Studies degree, plus admission to the museum’s three new exhibits. If you get your kicks from high-flying tricks, then prepared to be amazed by the dips and flips performed by the world-renowned Blue Angels and other aerial performers during the

2014 NAS Oceana Air Show

(Sept. 20–21), hosted by Naval Air Station Oceana in partnership with the Navy Wounded Warrior/Safe Harbor program. A Month of Neptune Virginia Beach’s reigning King Neptune, King of the Sea, invites you to celebrate sun and fun throughout September. Kick it off with the

Neptune’s Fall Wine Festival

(Sept. 6-7), where visitors can sip and savor chardonnays, merlots, rieslings and more from Virginia's leading vineyards. Enjoy delicious food, live entertainment and take home a bottle of vino or two, while enjoying oceanfront views. If you prefer your art served up with fresh salty air, then head to the

Neptune Art and Craft Show

(Sept. 26-28), held against the unbeatable backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. The show will feature more than 270 artisans displaying handmade works, from paintings and sculptures to photography and glasswork.  Browse the tents and displays on your way to the

International Sandsculpting Championship

(Sept. 26- Oct. 5), where you’ll see world-class sculptors from around the globe creating incredible, towering works of art out of Virginia Beach sand.

Visitors can walk through the trees and winding pathways of Great Neck Park and browse the fine crafts of 80 local artisans, while listening to live musical performances during Artisans in the Park (Sept. 6–7), now in its 39th year.

Savor the tastes of Greece and Italy during the Mediterranean Weekend (Sept. 12-14) at either Town Center or the oceanfront. Town Center will play host to a Festa Italiana, featuring an outdoor stage in a beautiful urban setting that’s the perfect atmosphere for dining, singing and dancing to classic and modern Italian musical selections.  Pasta, pizza, wine and desserts will all be offered, and cultural dance groups, bands and even grape stomping are sure to provide fun for all! Across town at the oceanfront, 24th Street Park will host My Big Fat Greek Party with a feast of Greek cuisine prepared by authentic Greek chefs. Tantalize your sweet tooth by enjoying desserts and pastries, such as baklava, koulourakia and loukoumades during live musical performances. Join the dancers and learn how to move like a Grecian.  Kids can even compete in a Junior Olympics to win prizes.
