Virginia Beach hosts Polar Plunge Winter Festival, MOCA Wine by Design and an array of Valentine’s Day festivities


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Jan. 24 2014) – Celebrate what you love this Valentine’s Day in Virginia Beach. Whether you want to sweep a special someone off their feet, take the Plunge or indulge in the finer things, Virginia Beach is sure to please with themed events in February. Polar Plunge Winter Festival Feb. 7-8 Take an icy plunge for a good cause at the Polar Plunge Winter Festival, benefitting the Special Olympics of Virginia – this event is the charity’s largest fundraiser! Kick things off with Friday’s beach party; then, take part in the Plunge, inaugural beach volleyball tournament and the 5K run – in costume, if you dare. Kids also can get in on the action by forming a team with their classroom for the Cool School Challenge, and children 10 years of age or younger can take to the waters in the Pee Wee Plunge.

Founders Inn & Spa’s “Homage to 6 Romantic Movies”

Feb. 14, 5:30-10 p.m.

Swan Terrace Grill’s Executive Chef, Scott Simpson, has channeled his own romantic side with a Valentine’s Day menu inspired by some of the most loved romantic movies of all time. The ingredients, flavor combinations and visual presentation of the six-course, prix fixe menu for two are based on the most memorable scenes of each of six movies that resonate with Chef Scott (and most of us, as well): Titanic, The Notebook, Love Actually, Romeo & Juliet, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Chocolat.

Pricing: $119 per couple or $149 with a selected bottle of wine.

Virginia is for Lovers 14K

Feb. 15

The 2014 Virginia is for Lovers 14K, Sweetheart 6K and Cupid’s 1K are a great way stay fit with your loved ones this Valentine’s Day weekend. An ordained pastor will even be at the finish line to help parried couples renew their wedding vows! Afterwards, celebrate with a free participation beanie or wine glass, or head to the post-race party with Yuengling beer, live music and great food from Baker’s Crust.

Military Aviation Museum 1940s Hanger Dance

Feb. 15; 6–10 p.m.

The Military Aviation Museum is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a nostalgic 1940s Hangar Dance. Come dressed in your 1940s attire alongside your sweetie, and dance the night away to the sounds of the WWII era, surrounded by MIG-3s, Hurricanes, Curtiss P-40s, P-51D Mustangs and other aircraft from that time.

Wine by Design 2014: A Hot Night in Rio

Feb. 28; 7-10 p.m.

MOCA, the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, will host its 23rd Annual Wine by Design, benefiting its Student Art Start program, which provides free art programs to underserved youth. Wine by Design 2014: A Hot Night in Rio will celebrate Latin culture, highlighting MOCA's exhibition Vik Muniz: Poetics of Perception, and feature a diverse array of wines from South America, as well as a tempting lineup of cuisine, silent auction and live music. Enjoy the after-party at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront with Latin-inspired cocktails at Catch 31; then, spend the night in an oceanfront room by booking the Wine by Design hotel package.
