This September, Rock Out on the Beach to Some Throwback Favorites, Experience the Thrill as Our Sand Takes Shapes and Join the King of the Sea for a Fun-Filled Month at the Boardwalk

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (August 15, 2016) – With Virginia Beach being a year-round destination, the fun doesn’t stop as the temperature drops. In fact, the fall is one of the best times to visit VB. With perfect weather, stunning views and rockin’ events all month long, the destination’s three beaches are sure to impress! There are so many lively and entertaining events happening in September – from wine tasting and marathon runners, to international sand sculptors and classic rock, the month will be filled with good times and autumn vibes.

A BOARDWALK PARTY FIT FOR A KING

The Neptune Festival (Aug. 22- Oct. 9) is all about celebrating the beach life the whole month through. The festival is made up of a series of over 40 events that spread across all three beaches, giving visitors the opportunity to explore, experience and enjoy Virginia Beach. King Neptune loves to celebrate the life festival style!

Neptune Festival Art & Craft Show and Boardwalk Weekend (Sept. 30 – Oct. 2) will line Virginia Beach’s three-mile boardwalk with tents showcasing 270 artisans displaying handmade work created all across the country. Daily concerts will take place along 32 blocks for visitors to enjoy, while crab cakes and Italian ice will be available to fulfill visitors’ cravings, as they enjoy arts and crafts under the sun with an unbeatable Atlantic Ocean backdrop.

Mythical dragons, mermaids and pirates emerge from the sand for ten days at the International Sand Sculpting Championship (Sept. 30 – Oct. 9), where sculptors from around the world come together to compete for the Neptune Championship – one of the most distinctive events of its kind in the world!

Run, jog or walk down Atlantic Avenue to Rudee Inlet cheering on family and friends during Neptune’s 8K or 5K (Oct. 1). Afterwards, celebrate and enjoy food and drinks with a fantastic view of the ocean, and try your chance at a prize or two. Pre-registration is required to participate in Neptune’s 8K or 5K, but spectators are free and encouraged to attend.

Visitors can enjoy an afternoon hosted by Virginia’s leading vineyards at the 20th Annual Neptune’s Fall Wine Tasting (Sept. 17-18). Sip chardonnays, merlots, Rieslings and more, while meeting and greeting the grape heads behind Virginia’s quality wine reputation. Settle down for the evening enjoying delicious cuisine and live entertainment on the boardwalk.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL IS MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

Get ready to let the rhythm move you over Labor Day Weekend at Virginia Beach’s Resort Beach during the American Music Festival (Sept. 2-4), featuring headliners UB40, The wallflowers and Culture Club. One of the largest outdoor music events on the East Coast, the festival brings together national, regional and local acts to play on a gigantic state in the sand at 5th Street!

It’s the 16th anniversary of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon (Sept. 3-4) in Virginia Beach! Cheer on the racers from the Virginia Beach Convention Center to the boardwalk at 13th Street, where it’s the race to the finish line. Here’s a little secret for those who are participating in the race: the race bib is a ticket to the fun and festivities at the American Music Festival, all weekend long! So, don’t miss the fun!

FALL IS IN THE AIR

Imagine a sky filled with soaring acrobatic military jets, providing a heart-stopping performance. The sky comes to life at the NAS Oceana Air Show (Sept. 9-11), which is pleased to present the United States Navy’s Blue Angels for a flight demonstration along with thrilling military and civilian performances. The air show is sure to leave visitors exhilarated.
