VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (July 27, 2015) – The beautiful weather isn’t over yet! Virginia Beach has many festivals and events for travelers to experience this August such as, surfers riding the curl at the Resort Beach, hidden treasure discoveries, acrobats climbing on tight ropes in the Big Top and teams shooting paintballs at one of the world’s largest paintball events. LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN
Team up and run, duck and hide during the Professional Paintball Tournament and Festival (Aug. 7-9)! It is colorful, action-packed and one of the world’s largest paintball events. Run through the course, strategize and stay hidden behind the blow-up obstacles for a chance to take the home the win. Fans of all ages can enjoy this event with grandstand seating, food trucks and a free trade show.
The 19th Neptune Soccer Classic is back, providing a top quality soccer tournament that is recreational and competitive. Held at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (Aug. 8-9) for both men and women as well as coed divisions. Enjoy a game filled with teamwork, fun, positive attitudes and love for the game!
The Surfers Healing Team (Aug. 14-15), celebrating its 10th year, was inspired by a boy with a disability who found the ocean to be his place of relief. This event is centered on filling disabled children with peace and happiness catching some waves, guided by volunteers, at Virginia Beach’s Resort beach. In addition to the surf is a 5K run/walk benefiting Surfers Healing Foundation and Autism Society.
Virginia Beach is the place to witness professional surfers riding the curl. Celebrating 53 years, it is North America’s longest, continuously running surfing competition, the East Coast Surfing Championships (Aug. 16-23). Known to locals and patrons as ECSC, the competition is also the second-longest continuously-run surfing contest in the world. The best of the best compete at ECSC, including more than 200 of the world’s top professional male and female surfers, as well as an estimated 300 amateur surfers. In addition to the competition, visitors may enjoy food and drink concessions and live music on the beach.
ICE at the Beach brings one week of innovation, culture and extreme sports to the Resort Beach (Aug. 28 – Sept. 4). Enjoy the convergence of creative energy from sports, music, and entrepreneurship. Keynote speakers will showcase innovation through music, technology and film. Visitors will also be given the chance to land a deal with local investors.
ARTS AND CULTURE
There is all kinds of art! The Virginia Beach Tattoo Arts Festival (Aug. 14-16) is unlike any other arts festival you’ve been to before. Come out for live music, live tattooing, side show acts, suspension acts, local art, and more. This is festival is sure to amaze!
KOOZA from Cirque du Soleil is here in Virginia Beach for the first time (now through Aug. 16), with a Big Top production. Discover a magical, adrenaline-filled display of acrobatics, exploring the themes of fear, identity, recognition and power through a wonderful spectacle of two circus traditions: acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. This live performance, held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, is set in an electrifying and exotic visual world full of surprises, thrills and chills.
RUNNING ALL SUMMER LONG
Explore Virginia Beach’s emerging ViBe Creative District during First Friday ViBe (Aug. 7), when local artisans and shops extend their hours to feature special events, music, food and other entertainment throughout the neighborhood’s galleries and stores, located just steps off the oceanfront boardwalk at the Resort Beach.
Hang out in the metropolitan district for the Town Fair at Town Center (Aug. 21), featuring locally handmade art, jewelry, goods and fair-trade merchandise. On the third Friday of each month, now through September, residents and visitors alike can stroll around the fountain plaza of Town Center to view more than 30 merchants’ handmade and fair-trade goods.
Enjoy music, ranging from rock to blues to Motown, delicious food and local artists crafts at the seventh annual summer nights at Town Center concert series. This local favorite, Ynot Wednesday, takes place every Wednesday night until Aug. 26 on the Sandler Center Outdoor Plaza. The Virginia Beach Farmers Market will have local farmers with their fresh fruits, vegetables, and other homegrown items on the plaza. Check out the work of Virginia Beach local artists who will set up their handmade/handcrafted items inside the Sandler Center lobby.
