The Beach Report – September 17, 2010

Friday, September 17th, 2010 by Teresa Diaz

festaitaliana-bannerMangiare!  That’s Italian for “eat” and exactly what I plan to do this weekend.  Starting today at 5 p.m., Virginia Beach is hosting the 2010 Festa Italiana.  Between the delicious food, drink and superb weather we’re expected to have, I hope to intoxicate my senses with everything that is Italian.

The Starfish Pavilion at Atlantic & Seventeenth at the Oceanfront is the setting for this popular festival which runs through Saturday night.  From strolling musicians and the “Pizza Olympics” to some good old grape-stomping and a performance by the Rat Pack Reprise, there will be something for everyone.

Grab your sweetie, a beach blanket and plan to come out and enjoy the awesome September weather and Live the Life, Italian-style.  Mangiare!!!

It’s here.  September. For those of us who live, work and play in Virginia Beach, this is a month we relish.  Sunny, breezy days, cooler nights and still enough daylight to fit a great walk on the boardwalk or bike ride in before dark.

September marks the beginning of one of the biggest months of the year for locals and visitors in Virginia Beach.  More than 6,500 of our beloved friends, the MASA Shriners, are in town once again, which means a party and a parade are just around the corner.  I don’t know about you, but I love a parade, and the Shriner’s parade is one of the best ever!  Be on Atlantic Avenue tomorrow morning by 9:30 a.m. and you’ll see exactly what I mean. Munden Point Park, a tucked-away local secret

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 by Tina Fries

munden point lake reflectionMy family was looking for something new and different to do on the cheap this summer besides going to the community pool or beaching it – which I love, my daughter, Jennifer, likes and my husband, Rob, tolerates (sometimes – if it involves boogie boards and good surf!).

I’d often heard Munden Point Park referred to as “the hidden jewel of the Virginia Beach parks system” but had never been out there and wondered if maybe that was just hype.  Jennifer had been jazzed by canoeing at Girl Scout camp earlier this year, and I saw online that the park, which sits on the North Landing River, rents canoes and kayaks for just $6 an hour. It was worth a shot.

The Beach Report – September 3, 2010

Friday, September 3rd, 2010 by Teresa Diaz

AMF_logoWhew!  That was close. On the eve of the start of our big Labor Day weekend, Hurricane Earl threatened the Virginia Beach coast, but we were ready for him.  Luckily, he just brushed by leaving some rain and heavy surf.  He’s headed north and while we certainly wish our East Coast friends the best, we say good riddance, Earl!

We expect a beautiful, sunny Labor Day weekend, and as always, our welcome mat is out for visitors.
