    Atlantic Coast Kite-Festival

    Atlantic Coast Kite Festival

    May 6

    Go fly a kite on May 6th during the 13th Annual Atlantic Coast Kite Festival. Everyone is invited to participate in the “Colors in the Sky” themed event as the skies between 16th and 18th streets are filled with kites. If your kite is truly a marvel, feel free to enter the “Best Kite” contest or just bring your purchased or handmade kite down to the beach to fly. Kites entered into the competition must be flown from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. during judging. Entrants will be judged on the actual kite and on the flyer’s abilities. Participate in kite building workshops, “flight training” or shop for a new kite of your own. Admission to the family fun event is free. More Information

    Soak up the true meaning of living in a beach paradise on May 12th and 13th with a little help from the music of steel pans. Let the rhythm sooth you in beautiful Virginia Beach during the PANorama Caribbean Music Fest. The steel drum sound plays along with the cool ocean breeze while you enjoy an enticing Caribbean menu. In production with the Virginia Arts Festival, PANorama features 20 bands from high school, college and surrounding communities competing for the Grand Champion Awards. Headlines take center stage on Saturday night. All performances take place at Cox Cultural Pavilion at 24th Street and are free to the public. Find your rhythm here.

    Beware of monsters taking over the beach from May 12th through May 14th. Thrill seekers will not want to miss the crushing blows of off-road monsters during the Monsters on the Beach event. With a course built right on the beach off of 6th Street, experience the raw power and thrilling action that will leave your eardrums humming. Spectators get to watch all of the monster truck action from bleachers on the boardwalk.     Neptune Festival’s International Spring Wine Festival

    It is hard to find anything more enjoyable than sipping on delicious wine while soaking up the beautiful beach backdrop in delightful spring weather. During the Annual Neptune Festival’s Spring International Wine Tasting event you can do all of the above. On May 13th, plan your trip around with world without even leaving Virginia Beach as the International Spring Wine Festival showcases wines from Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and the United Sates. This is one of the many celebrated – and delicious – events during the famed Neptune Festival. Jet set off to Neptune’s Park to experience some of the best wines the world has to offer.     Fans of comic books or sci-fi and fantasy graphic novels must immediately add these dates to their calendar: May 13th and 14th. The Tidewater Comicon is bringing the world of sci-fi and fantasy to life right on the shores of Virginia Beach. This year the likes of Ernie Hudson, John Wesley Shipp, Peter David, and Brian O’Halloran will be making special appearances during the Tidewater Comicon at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.     Beach Music Weekend

    May 19 - 21

    Cruise down to 30th Street on the beach from May 19-21st for the Beach Music Weekend. This three-day free concert series is presented on a specially built stage right on the beach. Either pull-up in your convertible or head down on foot in the sand to enjoy the best of the “oldies” or the music made popular in an era of drive-ins and all day beach parties. Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s concert events will be surf side with plenty of dancing and fun. Even if you can’t cruise-in, be sure to get your fill of chrome by perusing the classic cars on display along the boardwalk. More Information Here

    Warbirds Over the Beach

    May 19 - 21

    From May 19th through May 21st, keep your eyes peeled for the Annual Warbirds Over the Beach Air Show. Weekend events include Warbird practice flights, rides on Warbirds (reservation required), live music, a WWII reenactment in the sky and a Saturday night dance at the hangar. Don’t miss your chance to meet history face to face with an up-close view of each of the WWII aircraft fully restored and airworthy. Tickets for the entire weekend or just one day are available starting at $15 for children and $30 for adults. Be sure to save plenty of time to explore the flight museum, where the full collection of WWII aircraft will be on display, and peruse memorabilia and collectibles displayed by vendors. More Information Here

    Honor military men and women who have sacrificed their lives throughout history during the Salute to Summer from May 26th to May 28th. Live performances from local and regional bands span three outdoor stages at 17th Street Park, the Cox Cultural Pavilion at 24th Street, and 31st Street Park. The Heroes Walk display includes 8-foot banners made by high school students that feature essays that describe United States military conflicts throughout history. Honor the fallen and enjoy fun in the sun without paying a dime. More Information


    Pungo Strawberry Festival

    May 27 - 28

    Our pristine beaches are only a part of all that the natural landscapes of Virginia Beach have to offer. In addition to our lovely shores, there are miles and miles of lush farmland in an area referred to as Pungo. Pungo is home to the popular Strawberry Festival, which takes place every year during Memorial Day weekend. For 33 years this berry delightful event is the highlight of beginning of summer. Beginning on May 27-28th, find varieties of strawberries prepared more than 50 different ways, enjoy continuous entertainment on 3 stages, pony rides, pig races, a parade, a pie eating contest and a strawberry bake-off.
