    Neptune Soccer Classic 2017


    AUGUST 5 – 6

    Mark your calendars for August 5th and 6th for the 21ST Annual MDCVSA (Metropolitan D.C.-Virginia Soccer Association) Neptune Soccer Classic. This affiliated tournament that is sanctioned by the USSF and the USASA is a celebration of competitive and recreational adult soccer. Held at the Hampton Roads soccer complex, approximately 1,500 players ranging in age from 18 to 60 participate in the fun. This year the Neptune Soccer Classic is partnering with the Virginia Power Soccer Association. This organization is the only team sport for powered wheelchairs that allows players to compete in and potentially advance to the United States U18 National squads. The local VPSA team the Tidewater Piranhas will be competing in the tournament. Registration has already begun and the cost per team for entry is $795. No team? No problem.     AUGUST 18 – 20

    Calling all women anglers! If you are a woman who loves to fish, loves wine and is passionate about fundraising, then this event is for you. An important event that is a part of the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation, the Wine, Women and Fishing billfish tournament is organized exclusively for women anglers. The tournament raises funds that support breast cancer research and finding a cure. Last year, a record 40 boats participated catching and releasing 70 blue and while marlin. Since its inception, the Wine, Women and Fishing event has raised more than $500,000 for breast cancer research at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Festivities begin on August 18th with the Trespass Vineyard Wine Dinner. Registration and the captain’s meeting for the tournament takes place on Saturday August 19th beginning at 5:30pm. The fishing tournament begins at 8:30am to 3pm on Sunday. A dock party and awards close out the day. All activities for this event take place under the big tent at the Southside Marina. Registration for the event is $700 per team with up to 6 lady anglers per boat. Tickets to the closing dock party are $75.     Surfers Healing 5K


    AUGUST 18 – 19

    Surfer’s Healing is a special program designed to assist children with autism. Quite simply, kids diagnosed with autism are taught to surf, creating a special relationship with the power of the ocean. The healing power of the water and the focus on the activity of surfing has a transformative effect on children who are burdened by sensory overload. The 5K Surfers Healing race supports the Surfers Healing camp. The camp takes place in Virginia Beach on August 18th and 19th and the 5K run takes place August 19th at 4th Street on the oceanfront boardwalk. This annual 5K run/walk supports the organization that helps thousands of children receive therapy enabling them to function just like any other kid.     ECSC 2017


    AUGUST 18 – 19

    From August 20th through August 27th prepare to catch a wave at the East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC). Fifty-five years of riding the curl makes the ECSC the world’s second longest consecutive-running surfing competition. The event hosts both amateurs and professionals in the United States Surfing Federation. Stake your claim on some prime beachfront sandy real estate to watch the best of the best in pro and amateur levels from around the world compete for East Coast surfing titles. As if the surfing wasn’t enough to get you down to the oceanfront, other competitions held during the week include skimboarding, volleyball, a 5K run on the boardwalk, boxing and skateboarding. Just to add a little more to the sporting atmosphere, Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium is installing a zip line right on the beach. All activities are open to the public coupled with live music to add to the thrilling ambiance.     VB Billfish Tournament


    AUGUST 24 – 27

    The Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament is not only a popular sport fishing event that brings out the best in the local waters, but supports a foundation that is dedicated to community enhancement and marine related charities. The Virginia Beach Billfish Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is supported by the success of the VBBT. During the tournament, each team has a chance to catch as many billfish as possible in the designated times during any two of the three available days. Points vary per type of fish from a blue marlin to a wahoo and accumulate depending on the number of fish caught throughout the day. There are six levels of entry, depending on the type of fish and the level of ambition for the team with a base-level entry of $2,400.     Funkfest 2017


    AUGUST 25 – 26

    FunkFest Beach Party gets funky, so prepare to dance all night. From August 25th through August 26th get your funk on at the beach at 24th Street. During Africana Virginia Beach enjoy sweet sounds of Funkfest from DJ Heartattack, Chuck Brown Tribute Band and Midnight Star on August 25th and DJ Heart Attack, The Ruzz Band, TFC Band and The Gap Experience on August 26th. The Africana festival includes African dance performers, jazz musicians and a stage for youth performances. Get funky and get the beach for some rhythmic bass and lots of soul.     Neptune Beer Festival 2017


    The transformation of Neptune’s Park in to a temporary biergarten is just what you need to quench your thirst in the heat of summer.
