  • Getting In and Around the Resort Area:
There’s more than one way to get to Atlantic Avenue.

In order to avoid congestion at the Oceanfront, take the I-264/Birdneck Road exit. Convenient street signs are displayed at the bottom of the exit ramp and will direct you to your desired Atlantic Avenue location.

      Beach Access for the Disabled

The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a concrete walkway that is accessible to individuals with varying degrees of mobility. Ramps are available at each street to take you from the Boardwalk to the sand. In addition, wooden walkways that take you onto the beach are located at 8th, 17th, 24th, and 30th Streets, along with Grommet Island Beach Park & Playground. Water edge access cannot be guaranteed at all wooden walkways due to weather and the condition of the beach. Ramps are extended as far as possible given the condition of the beach and time of year.

      Designated disabled on-street parking is available at Rudee Loop, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 37th, and 38th. Designated disabled off-street parking is available in all municipal lots.

Metered parking is free for up to four hours for the disabled. Virginia Beach offers the use of two all-terrain wheelchairs at the oceanfront free of charge to persons with disabilities. Beach wheelchairs are available in the resort area on a first-come, first-served basis from Mid-May to Mid-September.
For more information, call (757) 491-SUNN or (800) VA BEACH.

      Wheelchair-Accessible Taxis:
Black and White Cabs of Virginia Beach has available six wheelchair-accessible cabs. This service provides accessible on-demand transportation without service hour limitations. Taxicab service can respond at all hours of the day or night and to all locations in Virginia Beach, including to areas where there is no fixed route bus or paratransit service available, and with no requirement that an advanced day reservation be made. Additionally, wheelchair service will be available for all trip purposes. The wheelchair cabs charge the same fares as all taxis, which are listed on Black and White’s website: www.vabeachblackandwhitecabs.com.
