Three Beaches

  • Three Beaches In One Destination

Virginia Beach is more than a single beach or one type of vacation. With 56 kilometers of coastline to explore, you’ll find three distinct types of vacation experiences, each offering its own style of living the beach life. Whether you seek the casual vibe of Chesapeake Bay Beach, the fun-loving mood of the Resort Area Beach or the peace and quiet of Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach has you covered.

  • Bay Beach

    Chesapeake Bay Beach

Quiet shores and local flavor – you’ve found the perfect place to relax and enjoy. This is a scenic range of coastline on the tranquil waters of the Chesapeake Bay with gentler waves than the Atlantic Ocean.

    Resort Area

    Resort Area Beach

Active and immersed in beach culture – this is the spot for a lively time by the Atlantic Ocean. With numerous hotel options and restaurants nearby, the Resort Area is the ideal place for visitors who enjoy being in the middle of things with access to a wide range of activities.

    Sandbridge Beach

Secluded and quiet – get away from it all in a vacation home on the southern Atlantic Ocean shores of Virginia Beach. Sandbridge Beach is close to nature and wildlife areas, and a great place to enjoy the water and the community feel among the rental homes and condominiums here.

  • Chesapeake Bay Beach

    First Landing State Park

    First Landing 2

Site of the first landing of English settlers in America in 1607, the most-visited State Park in Virginia is home to trails, lagoons, large cypress trees and rare plants. It’s both a shady place to bike, run or hike and a sunny spot to enjoy the beach.

    Cape Henry Lighthouses

    Cape Henry

The site includes both the original brick lighthouse authorized by George Washington, and the current cast-iron structure, whose beacon guides ocean-going and harbor-bound ships through the Chesapeake Bay.

    Local Flavor

    Local Flavor

The Chesapeake Bay and area marinas provide a scenic backdrop for restaurants offering casual dining and fresh-from-the-boat seafood.

    Resort Area Beach

    The Boardwalk

The heart of the oceanfront, Virginia Beach’s boardwalk offers five kilometers of paved walkway, taking you from oceanfront parks to shops, restaurants, hotels and easy access to wide sandy beaches. Ranked in the “Top U.S. Boardwalks” by National Geographic, it’s home to free nightly entertainment in the summer months and always a lively place to be.

    King Neptune

He’s 34 feet tall, ruler of the sea and a mighty presence on the boardwalk. Accompanied by dolphins and sea turtles, this towering bronze sculpture is a popular attraction and a striking backdrop for your vacation photos.

    Events & Festivals

The Resort Area frequently hosts special events and festivals featuring live music, arts, food and celebration at the oceanfront. From American holidays to international cultural festivals, outdoor events bring good times year-round.

    Sandbridge Beach

    Back Bay Wildlife Refuge

    Back Bay

Explore more than 9,000 acres of barrier island habitat to encounter a wide range of wildlife, including ocean birds like herons and osprey. Whether hiking or biking, you’ll see large sand dunes, maritime forests, freshwater marshes, ponds and ocean beaches.

    False Cape State Park

    False Cape

Harboring some of the most pristine natural areas along the East Coast, False Cape State Park features over nine kilometers of remote unspoiled beaches, accessible to visitors by foot year-round or by tram from April through October. More than 300 species of nesting and migratory songbirds, shorebirds and ducks join otters, deer, fox and turtles to enjoy the ocean-to-freshwater bay habitat.
